It is useful for each governor to undertake a skills analysis and discuss this with the chair. This allows the trust to both identify skills and interest areas that it can utilise in the foundation trust as well as identify skill and knowledge gaps. This can be used as the basis to plan a development programme for governors.
Training and development is likely to include skill elements such as team working, chairing skills and how to effectively engage stakeholders and public. Additionally, those involved in nominations or other employment processes should receive appropriate training for example equality and diversity.
